Meet Dr. Olivia Smith

Dr. Olivia Smith is an Assistant Professor at MSU. She has been a birder for 13 years and developed her passion for birding when she did an internship at the Toledo Zoo Bird Department as an undergraduate. That led her to undertake graduate studies focused on conserving birds in human-modified landscapes, which she continues to research now as a professor at MSU. She has taught undergraduate ornithology at MSU and has led a monthly MSU birding group for the past 3 years. She also works at the Michigan State Bird Observatory where visitors can see bird banding up close and even hold birds in their hands. She is passionate about fostering birding for everyone and looks forward to birding with the community at Fenner.
