Fenner’s Youth Leadership Program (YLP) is an incredible opportunity for youth between the ages of 12 and 17 to be involved in volunteerism and leadership roles at Fenner. This program was launched in the winter of 2012 and is supported by a host of partners including the City of Lansing, Jackson National Community Fund, Foster Swift and individual donors. There is no cost for participants.
Those who apply and are accepted into the program take on a variety of roles at the Nature Center. They design interpretive displays, lead Junior Interpreter activities for the public, and assist staff naturalists during nature walks, summer camps, and campfire programs.
Currently, the group meets on Sundays from 4-6pm, where they develop their public speaking skills through individual presentations, assist each other in communication and teamwork building, and participate in one-hour training sessions. These trainings vary each week, but have included archery, pond ecology, wild edibles, slack lining, survival and more.
Application packets for both Youth Leaders and Adult Volunteers can be requested via email at firstname.lastname@example.org
