Join Fenner for Earth Day Extravaganza on April 19th! Earth Day Extravaganza presents the perfect opportunity for volunteers to directly contribute to conservation and stewardship at Fenner Nature Center. Whether you are an individual interested in cleaning up a trail or part of a larger group looking to take part in local stewardship, we’re excited to have you as part of the positive impact of Earth Day!
Fenner will be welcoming volunteers for two service shifts during the day. Our first service window will occur from 9:30am until 12pm and our second is scheduled for 12:30pm to 3pm. Volunteers can engage in one of invasive plant removal, trail maintenance or litter pick up. All of these activities are incredibly beneficial to the plants and animals that call Fenner home as well as the visitors who enjoy our green space in the heart of Lansing.
How do these activities impact Fenner?
-Invasive Plant Removal: Invasive plant species push out and outcompete many native Michigan plant species. Without these native plants local ecologies begin to unravel.
-Trail Maintenance: Well maintained trails allow access and viewing of natural areas. These trails give visitors a chance to connect with nature, with that connection comes appreciation, education and care.
-Litter Pick Up: Trash in our natural areas isn’t only unsightly, it’s dangerous! Trash can be eaten by animals or can degrade in Fenner’s habitats, introducing unnecessary toxins into the soil.
