Join us at Fenner Nature Center for our first-ever World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) celebration, a free, all-day event inspired by World Migratory Bird Day, an annual global celebration of birds and their incredible journeys.
This special day brings together bird lovers of all experience levels to learn, explore, and connect with the birds that call Michigan home or pass through on their migrations.
What Is World Migratory Bird Day?
WMBD is celebrated worldwide each year to raise awareness of migratory birds, the challenges they face, and the importance of protecting the habitats they rely on. Fenner’s World Bird Day is our local way of celebrating that global movement, right here in our trails, prairies, and woodlands.
This will be a free community event open to all ages and designed to encourage learning and appreciation of birds and the ecosystems they depend on.
What to Expect
While a detailed schedule is still in the works, visitors can plan to enjoy a full day of bird-focused activities and learning opportunities, including:
- Guided birding hikes
- Activities for all ages
- Collaborations with local organizations and bird experts
- Conservation talks and educational lectures
- Workshops and informal learning sessions centered on birds and habitat protection
Activities will take place throughout the day, allowing you to drop in for a short visit or stay longer to experience more.
A full schedule and list of partners will be announced closer to the event date.
Honoring Joan Brigham
This inaugural World Migratory Bird Day at Fenner is held in memory of Joan Brigham, Fenner Nature Center’s first female naturalist. Joan’s dedication to teaching others about nature, especially birds, helped shape Fenner’s early educational mission. This event celebrates her legacy by continuing the work she cared deeply about: helping people learn from and care for the natural world.
