Description

Ever been curious about the noisy frog ponds that are part of the soundscape for spring hiking? These are called ‘vernal pools’ – small, temporarily-flooded wetlands that fill with water in the late winter and early spring that provide critical nursery habitat for creatures like salamanders, frogs, and fairy shrimp across Michigan’s forests!

Discover the wonders of vernal pools with a FREE exploration led by the Michigan Nature Association at Fenner Nature Center on April 14th! This event will start indoors with a short presentation on the ecology, conservation, and community science efforts surrounding vernal pools, followed by a field trip to explore the vernal pools at Fenner Nature Center. Bring your muck boots!
